The Michigan School of Gardening
Great Learning Opportunities for People Who Love to Garden

Thanks for visiting!

Since January 1996, the School has been dedicated to providing beginning and experienced gardeners with high quality training in gardening, design and horticulture. We are professionally trained experts with a dream — to give gardeners of every level top-quality information so they can truly enjoy the joys of gardening! We have developed classes for everyone: homeowners, beginners, old hands, amateur or professional horticulturists and designers. We have developed over 100 classes for all stages of gardeners.

Our classes are known for their down-to-earth hands-on experience, and the techniques and information they provide which, together, help build and increase gardeners’ skills and confidence to design, plant and maintain fabulous gardens or just have the most beautiful yard on the block.

We have evolved over the years by listening to our students, and we see that it's time for our biggest change yet. We are going back to our roots and looking at ways to enhance our approach and branch out, making what we do at the school available to gardeners everywhere. One of our aims is to develop new platforms so that topics can be learned not only in a classroom or group setting but individually, at your own place and pace.  As we develop new on-line, on-air and on-screen programs and written materials, we are recruiting our students to test pilot programs, serve as beta-testers for on-line offerings, assist in research, etc.

As we have classes and events to announce, we contact our students and interested parties by e-mail much like the e-mails we’ve sent over the past year announcing our classes, workshops and Expert Perspective Walks™.  We no longer send a paper schedule in the mail.  So, please make sure to keep in touch with us by providing us your e-mail address and letting us know you want to receive our notices.

As always, special classes can be arranged for your group, organization or event through our Book an Expert program. We are also available to answer gardening questions and converse on the FREE Gardeners’ Forum at www.PracticalGardening.com.

LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION CHECKLIST

An established landscape can increase the value of a home up to 20%!  But how can homeowners protect their investment during a construction project? For a checklist of landscape protection items to consider, click here to download, review and print the Landscape Guard's Checklist using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

ASH TREE REPLACEMENT LIST

Because of the large number of trees lost to the emerald ash borer, it is important to be informed about the different trees available in our area to replace those that have been removed from our landscapes. We have compiled a list of trees and some important information about each tree.  Click here to download, review and print more information about replacing lost ash trees using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
